Photographer for the Volunteer Program
Volunteers help with many of the special events and
activities in the city, and we are looking for an able
photographer to capture all of the exciting things that are
going on! Do you have that special knack for capturing people
in action, whether it's an outdoor activity or an indoor
event? If so, we need your help. Your photos will be featured
in our newsletter, on our website, and on Facebook!
Join the Marin Master Gardeners at the Falkirk greenhouse!
Love to garden? Come to a
work party on the second
Saturday of each month at the beautiful
Falkirk Gardens. Volunteers are also needed for other
greenhouse projects including heating, cooling, plumbing,
drip irrigation, carpentry, and painting. For more

Library Outreach Volunteer
Do you read widely and find yourself recommending
books to friends, coworkers and family? The library is looking for
a volunteer to select books for discriminating readers with a
variety of tastes but who are unable to visit the library
themselves. Must be able carry a load of books (sometimes up
stairs) and use your own car to deliver materials within city
limits once or twice a month. This is a fairly physical job for
someone who enjoys working independently. We have a one-year
requirement, but most volunteers stay for many years!
Throughout the year, the city relies on
volunteers to help us pull off many enjoyable events for
the public. These include the Thursday evening Farmers'
Market (April - Oct.), the May Madness Classic Car Parade,
the Italian Street Painting Festival (June), the San
Rafael Food & Wine Festival (Aug.), Trick or Treat on
Fourth Street (Oct.), the Parade of Lights (Nov.), and
many other events. Activities range from set-up to
staffing information tables to setting up barricades--please
Weekend Service Projects
From April to October, the city offers monthly
hands-on service projects--it's your opportunity to enjoy
some fresh air, get your hands dirty, and do something
good for your neighborhood and community! Projects range
from cleanups to graffiti removal to fixing picnic benches
or play equipment at our local parks. Check
Library Computer Tutor
Help your San Rafael community with literacy - computer
literacy! San Rafael residents are eligible to receive free
computer tutoring for things such as basic word processing,
spreadsheets, internet searches, web-based email, online
job-hunting and more. If you have a solid knowledge of the PC,
good people skills, and a penchant for teaching, this might be
the job for you. Hours are scheduled during library
open-hours, and matched to your availability and the
availability of applicants
Filing Assistant - Human Resources
Assist the Human Resources Department with various
filing and organizing needs to keep our busy city running
smoothly! Four hours a week, Mon., Tues. or Thurs. preferred.
Concierge at City Hall
Directs visitors to proper departments at
City Hall on Fifth Street, answers questions relating to City
Hall activities and, at times, assists with light clerical
duties. Monday to Thursday, 3 hour shifts.
Data/Admin Assistant - Fire Department
San Rafael Fire Department is looking for a volunteer
with experience in letter-writing, data tracking, and
high-level clerical work that wants to work with the hottest
Fire Department in the county. Duties include organizing and
keeping track of files and accounts, composing letters, etc.
Duties and tasks depend on your availability. This position
may require a background check and requires a minimum one-year
Clean Campaign Ambassador
Work with San Rafael Clean Campaign at various cleanup
events and with outreach to schools and the community to
educate about the hazards of litter and benefits of recycling.
Various days, times, skill requirements available.
What is the process for volunteering? First contact us to
discuss opportunities and see if we have something that
interests you. Then you will be asked to complete/submit the
Application Form. Once we receive the form you will be
scheduled for an interview. After the interview, we'll refer
you to the department to see if there is a good match. If so,
then a schedule is set up and training or orientation will
